The Keyport Kickoff party got lots of press in the area, not for the quality of the book or the overall outcome of the football game, but for the near-riot that ensued at the end of the football game. Apparently someone thought the dollar-store door prizes weren’t being distributed fairly and got a little confrontational. Words and pushed were exchanged and the whole thing quickly degenerated into an old-time brawl. By the time it was over -the police were there as was an ambulance and it really was quite the closing!

"The Fight"

ONE THURSDAY NIGHT BACK IN DECEMBER
WHILE THE PACK AND VIKES WERE ON TV
PEOPLE CAME FROM FAR AND WIDE
GATOR'S BOOK-OR MAYBE THE GAME-TO SEE

THE KEYPORT LOUNGE WAS THE PERFECT SPOT
WITH THE PERFECT GAME IN THE BACKGROUND
A GOOD TIME WAS BEING HAD BY ALL
-AT LEAST JUDGING BY THE SOUND

ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER GOINGS-ON
THERE WERE EVEN DRAWINGS FOR DOOR PRIZES
BUT WHEN SOMEONE SAID IT WASN'T FAIR AND GOT UPSET
IT WAS JUST THE FIRST OF THE NIGHT'S SURPRISES

SOMEBODY WAS SHOUTING THEN SOMEONE GOT PUSHED
THEN SUDDENLY THE PUNCHES STARTED TO FLY
PEOPLE WERE FLYING OVER TABLES AND CHAIRS
WITH NO ONE REALLY KNOWING WHY

AFTER THE POLICE CAME AND RESTORED ORDER
AND THE INSTIGATOR WAS PLACED IN CUFFS
THE AMBULANCE TOOK THE WOUNDED TO THE HOSPITAL
AND THE CROWD DECIDED THE NIGHT HAD BEEN ENOUGH

OF COURSE THE POLICE WANTED STATEMENTS
ABOUT WHAT HAD CAUSED THE EVENING'S BRAWL
THINKING MAYBE THE PRIZES HAD BEEN VALUABLE
AND THEY MAY HAVE BEEN THE REASON AFTER ALL

BUT THEY'D ALL COME FROM THE DOLLAR STORE
SO IT MAY HAVE BEEN TOO MUCH ALCOHOL
AND THOUGH IT WASN'T THE ENDING WE HAD PLANNED
MOST PEOPLE SAID THEY'D HAD A BALL !!!
